It would be a shame if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were not a frequent-flyer club member since he is taking every opportunity to escape the anti-corruption noose tightening around his neck in Tel Aviv.
Last month Israeli police recommended bringing indictments against Bibi for fraud, bribery, and breach of trust. Yesterday, things got much worse when the Ministry of Justice announced that former Netanyahu media advisor Nir Hefetz had turned state’s witness against Bibi in two of the four corruption scandals surrounding him.
Thousands of Israelis have been taking to the streets of Tel Aviv regularly of late to call for Netanyahu’s resignation.
In classic “Wag the Dog” form, Netanyahu has become increasingly bellicose during those now more frequent foreign junkets.
Today, he told his biggest supporters at a policy meeting of AIPAC (American Israeli Public Affairs Committee) in Washington DC that Iran was responsible for a “darkness descending” on the Middle East.
“Iran is building an aggressive empire. Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Gaza, Yemen, more to come,” Netanyahu railed, adding that Israel would never allow Iran to have nuclear weapons.
What Netanyahu describes is indeed the new reality in the region, as both Israel and the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain finds themselves increasingly exposed as lapdogs to the City of London.
Unity like this has not been seen amongst the progressive Arab states Bibi mentions since the days of the Committee for Steadfastness & Confrontation in the early 1970’s, before Henry Kissinger engineered the failure of OPEC as a producer cartel with his new International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Even French President Charles de Gaulle called Kissinger’s IAEA a machine de guerre (instrument of war).
Bibi Netanyahu’s slippery slope is simply a metaphor for what is coming to the illegitimate apartheid state which he leads, as history once again catches up to the perpetrator, grabs them by the scruff of the neck, and meets out karmic justice.
